Bacon is a meat product usually prepared from side and back cuts of pork, except in the United States, where it is prepared from pork belly. It is first cut to remove the skin from the meat, cured with salt (and, sometimes, with some spices too), and then it is usually dried for weeks or months in cold air, or it may be boiled or smoked. It is usually sliced into strips.
In cooking, Bacon is often used at breakfast, usually together with eggs and butter. Here in Italy it has begun to spread just during the last few years, used for first or second courses, combined with fish or fruit. Among the best-known recipes, plums and bacon rolls.
Fun fact: Bacon is tasty, but really rich in calories, fat and salt. You shouldn’t eat it in large quantity, nor together with other heavy food.
