A Whoopie Pie is a US pastry, made of two round mound-shaped mini chocolate cake with a sweet creamy filling between them. The filling may vary, from a cheese cream to buttercream. It seems to have been first created in NewEngland or Pennsylvania. They say that the original ones used to be made from cake batter leftovers, that women baked and put in farmers’ lunch boxes: when they would find the treats, farmers would shout “Whoopie!” 🙂
I have had this recipe for a while, but my first attempt was unsuccessful… so I’ve made a few changes, and this one was a hit: I shout “Whoopie!” as well 😛

Ingredients for 20 pies:
125 g of butter
170 g of sugar
1 egg
250 g of pastry flour
50 g of plain cocoa
1 tsp of baking powder
180 ml of buttermilk *
1 tbsp of vanilla essence
Buy Fluoxetine 1 pinch of baking soda

Ingredients for cheese frosting
350 gr of cream cheese
order misoprostol 4 tbsp of icing sugar
2 tbsp of vanilla essence

* Here in Italy we don’t find buttermilk in regular stores… In case you don’t have it, you can replace it by milk in the same amount: add a tbsp of lemon juice, let rest for 10 minutes, then use it.

Preparation Time: 40 min
Baking Time: 10 min
Total Time: 50 min

How to make Whoopie Pie

In a bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and baking powder.

In another bowl, larger, combine butter and sugar. Then add in the egg.

Add half of the flour mixture.

Combine buttermilk and vanilla, and add half of this mixture inside the large bowl. Finish to add flour, then finish to add buttermilk.

Combine evenly.

With an ice-cream scoop (or with 2 teaspoons), make small balls of the mixture and place them on an oven tray covered with baking paper, quite apart from each-other.

Wet you fingertips and smooth the surface.

Bake for about 10 minutes in oven preheated at 190°C.
Then left them on a grate to cool down.

Now let’s make the frosting.
Combine cheese with sugar and vanilla.

Put frosting in a pastry bag and cover the surface of half of your pies.

Cover the frosting of each pie with another pie.

Serve your Whoopie Pies.

Taste them, and you’ll say… whoooopie!!! 😛
